Hi ,
It's time to look again at the coming fortnight's movements of the planets in the sky. This lunar month is a month of major transformation. Death and rebirth themes are very strong with the New Moon in the constellation of death and rebirth, Bharani. Bharani is related to Goddess Durga, the fierce Devi with the power to destroy and also create. Durga carries 10 weapons in her 10 hands and is the destroyer of the negative forces of our lives. She is also the prison warden of our conditioned state and she has the power to release us from that condition. It's expected that energies this month are heightened and it's important to tread as lightly as possible during this month. The fortnight begins with a solar eclipse which has the energy of self-responsibility and taking on new challenges.
Tuesday, May 3rd
Main Event: Akshaya Tritiya
This is a very famous day on the Vedic calendar. Once a year the Sun and Moon both enter their position of exaltation or peak happiness in the sky. This means that Sun is in Aries, while Moon is in Taurus. This happens on the 3rd day of the waxing Moon in April-May each year. This day is described as an excellent day to start something that you want to be successful, auspicious and enlightened. Tritiya, the 3rd day of the Moon landing on a Tuesday is also a very good combination as it has a connection to Mars as the ruler of day of the week and lunar day as he rules the 3rd day of the Moon cycle. We also have the creative energies of Bharani running this month as mentioned above. In this case there are also very strong transitions happening this week with Saturn entering Aquarius and the eclipse season having begun with the Solar eclipse on May 1st.
Wednesday, May 4th
Main Event: Mars enters Purvabhadrapada constellation
Mars in Purvabhadrapada is a bit dysfunctional because Purvabhadra has an intangible element to it and Mars struggles to find a practical way to act under such uncertainty. Mars themes will likely be subdued for a few weeks with Mars in this position, still under the gaze of Saturn who joined him in Aquarius a few days ago.
Wednesday, May 11th
Main Event: Mercury retrograde begins
Mercury, the planet of intellect and communication begins retrograde (relative backwards) motion in Taurus, the sign of material comfort. This combination takes us deeper into the realm of ideas about how we can achieve more comfort and ease in our lives. Those ideas can come with the tendency to get rid of things and start fresh with a new start or approach during this month of Bharani.
Thursday, May 12th Main Event: Ekadasi fasting, Sun conjunction with Rahu, Sun enters Kritika constellation
The Sun enters Kritika and joins Rahu there. The Sun rules Kritika and the Sun there is very transformative. Kritika energies are about cutting and slicing, which connects to the current themes of the swords of Durga and her clearing of the path with her blades. This transit will be strong over the coming 5 days, leading into the Lunar eclipse on Monday 16th.
Friday May 13th
Main Event: Venus enters Revati constellation
Revati is a constellation of abundance and giving. Venus here goes into a very strong energy of giving love, affection and care. There is potential here for relationships to reach a very high level of exchange and harmony. So long as the personal challenges presented by the other energies currently present can also be navigated.
Sunday, May 15th
Main Event: Nrsingha Avatar appearance
This day is celebrated as the anniversary of the appearance of the Vishnu incarnation called Nrsingha. He is half-man and half-lion and is called an ugra incarnation or a divine incarnation achieving his aims by expresses a mood of anger. This brings the energy of diving destruction to the world and we can offer all the parts of us that are an obstacle to our spiritual development to Nrsingha for them to be cleared.
Monday, May 16th
Main Event: Full Moon, Lunar eclipse
Full Moon comes in the constellation of Vishakha. Vishakha is about multiplication and amplification. What we meditate upon and set as intentions on this Full Moon will amplify. It comes with an eclipse, which is a total eclipse of the Moon. The cycle of this eclipse connects to themes of limiting beliefs and conditioning and a need to let go and leave those things behind.
