Letting Go

Astro Newsletter update

The week ahead brings an invitation to explore the theme of Letting Go. We are coming into the last phase of the Lunar Eclipse from mid-March which brought this theme into our awareness.

In Vedic Culture life pursuit is commonly divided into four paths called Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. These are often translated as Duty, Economics, Enjoyment and Liberation.

These life pursuits are seen in various ways in the astrology charts. The first way is through the houses - 1,5,9 belong to dharma, 2,6,10 belong to artha, 3,7,11 belong to kama and 4,8,12 belong to moksha.

So we can consider letting go in relation to the 4th, 8th and 12th. What does that look like? In relation to the 4th it means emotional letting go. Letting go of past baggage and traumas that need to heal. Until we complete this process our sense of stability and peace (4th) will tend to elude us.

The 8th is about what we cannot see. Here we need to let go of fears and worries about the unknown or what is out of our control. It is so easy to unconsciously run on a track of convincing ourselves that calamity is coming. It is a tendency of the mind, especially when there is strong influence of the lunar nodes.

The 12th is about transition into our next life experience. Letting go is necessary or the next journey cannot fully land. The 12th means we are at the end and a new beginning is coming. This relates to death, as well as to chapters in our life when things end. A change of planet period is the most common experience of an ending with a new chapter beginning. These moments are critical to tune in to and embrace in harmony with the awareness to let go.

In addition to these houses the four paths are expressed through the Lunar Constellations, the Naksatras. Naksatras are divided into 4 parts each giving 108 slices of the zodiac pie. This week most of the planets are sitting in the 4th part of their Naksatra, which belongs to moksha.

So the planets are all feeling like a break and desire to be liberated from their naturally entangled (graha) state. Moksha also refers to letting go. Allowing things to take their course and pausing our tendency to jump in and make things happen a certain way.

This transit will last for a good 8 days up until April 11th so we have a good period of days to sit with these themes.

The other part of the sky that relates to this theme of Moksha is the planet of Moksha, Ketu. Naturally Ketu is currently very active as we are in eclipse season. And the planets conjunct in Pisces (Sun, Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu) are all looking across at Ketu. What a fabulous time to look at where we are stuck in life!

Ketu in Virgo tends to express an inability to help others effectively due to our own self sabotage and limiting beliefs. In the constellation Uttara Phalguni the normally fruit laden abundant tree of this constellation becomes dormant and dry, lacking the necessary nourishment.

Letting go in vedic culture is known as 'vairagya' and it is described as having two types. The first is called 'phalgu' which indicates a false letting go. In this state we tend to convince ourselves that we are letting go, pretending that we are. But secretly we are very attached and holding on.

The second is called 'yukta' which is another word for yoga. This one means that we are in equilibrium and staying completely connected to everything while we allow things to stay or to go in a natural way.

This is the letting go that we need to find in all aspects of our life. Ketu's house indicates the themes in life where letting go needs to be practiced the most, and will likely be the most difficult for us.

And after this week of contemplation we can be ready for the final kick of Saturn on the 19th April which completes the Lunar Eclipse of March.
