Have you found the trickster within?
Hint: He's lurking in the shadows...

There's a mischievous trickster inside all of us.
You know who I'm talking about.
The one that keeps coming up with practical jokes or sly comments.
And depending upon your filtering you hold this guy down like grabbing a little gremlin in a head lock and pushing his face in the dirt.
But no matter how much of a stranglehold you have on this guy, he keeps coming back for more...
In Vedic Astrology, there are two main tricksters in the sky. First of all is the Moon planet, which is aligned to your mind.
There is a saying in the famous scripture, Bhagavad Gita:- your mind is either your best friend or your worst enemy.
How you think is what your life becomes, and if you have an afflicted Moon or a strong Rahu you are likely to be telling yourself so many lies about yourself and your life.
The god that relates to the Moon is Krishna, the god of love. Everything to do with Krishna is filled with uncertainty, fun and practical jokes.
If you can't take a joke, you won't enjoy his pastimes.
This weekend the appearance of Krishna is celebrated on Saturday 16th and the festival flows into Sunday 17th.
Krishna appeared at midnight on the waning 8th Moon day, which is connected to Rahu, the other trickster planet in the sky.
Rahu takes this tricky mind into the shadowy, darker places. Now we are talking about deeper, hidden desires. The kind of desires you are afraid to whisper to even your closest confidantes.
Now this isn't all bad.
Often you have a desire to do great things, but feel so stuck, ashamed, afraid, uncertain... filled with fear.
And fear is the other side of Rahu. Ambition and Fear.
And if you are in the constant loop of these forces, it can feel like there's no way out.
But this is the thing.
It's all a game of perception with Rahu.
Rahu is a trickster, and your mind is a trickster. The loop is based upon your perception - the subtle stages of mind exemplified in Rahu and Moon.
Life is all about how you respond to events, not the events themselves.
And Rahu is keen to watch you tell yourself a bunch of lies and get all twisted inside about your life events while he watches and laughs.
How cruel!
So what to do?
Rahu's greatest friend is Saturn. And Rahu's greatest enemies are the Sun and Moon.
Saturn is the planet of patience and consistency. The truth persists where the lies evaporate. So Saturn helps in dealing with Rahu.
And the Sun and Moon come to shine a light on what is going on.
How to deal with lies?
Expose them and shine the light on them!
In Sanskrit, the word krishna means black-coloured and the waning fortnight of the Moon is called the krishna cycle.
The god Krishna moves in the darkness and helps us to bring light into that darkness so that we can see the truth.
You can invoke his blessings with the simple mantra: aum krishnaya namaha.
There is more to say about our friend Rahu, his energy is getting stronger as we come towards New Moon next week and the beginning of the next eclipse season. More on that in the coming days...
For now, this weekend is a great time to sit quietly and reflect upon the themes of truth and lies.
What do you tell yourself constantly that isn't true?
And what are the lies that you believe that are hiding behind those thoughts?
